After leaving Dunder Mifflin, Michael Scott formed a local competitor with Pam Beesly and Ryan Howard. The new company won customers through aggressive pricing and personal selling, putting enough pressure on Dunder Mifflin that corporate chose to resolve the threat through acquisition and rehiring.
A small competitor led by former employees was taking local accounts quickly, while Dunder Mifflin did not have a clear view of the competitor’s financial sustainability.
